The Dozen Wild Roses

WRMAGIC partnered with Colorado State University Equine Behavior Instructor, Sarah Matlock, supported by the renowned Temple Grandin, to conduct an in-depth case study on mustang gentling techniques in 2021.

Twelve untouched mustangs were involved in a behavior study where our trainers gentled each of them using strictly positive reinforcement via clicker training. After the gentling requirements were completed, the Mustangs were introduced to low stress methods of pressure-release (traditional practices) to get them prepared for adoption/riding. Our hope was to establish ‘Best Practices’ for mustang gentling in order to minimize the stresses they experience during training.

We received a generous donation from Temple Grandin. The study was completed in 2021.

Our Mustangs need your help! Check out our new merchandise designed by our very own, Olivia Gaweda. All proceeds from the sale of these beautifully designed t-shirts will go directly towards the care of our Dozen Wild Roses.
