The 2025 Youth Trainer Program, sponsored by Wild Rose Mustang Advocacy Group, based out of Wellington/North Fort Collins, Colorado. Wild Rose Mustang Advocacy Group is a 501(c)(3) organization run by a team of experienced volunteers with an unbridled passion for MUSTANGS! Our mission is to foster, train and rehome American Mustangs, and to showcase their innate talents and versatility.
Every summer, Wild Rose Mustang Advocacy Group offers an incredible opportunity for kids ages 10-17, the Youth Trainer program. The program runs from May 31st through August 24th. We will be getting 10, untouched Mustang yearlings from the Forest Service. Kids do NOT have to have horse experience to apply! We offer 6 hands-on clinics over the course of the 12 week program, to educate the kids on basic horse handling, working with Mustangs, positive reinforcement training. It is an amazing experience! Here are the details-
*Applications can be found on this website page
*Application deadline is April 13th
*Program fee is $300 per youth trainer (to be applied to summer clinic costs)
*Mandatory parent meeting in Fort Collins (location TBD) May 3rd. Zoom option available
*Youth Trainers will work individually or in pairs, with the Mustang assigned to them
*Each Mustang must be boarded by the Youth Trainer, who is responsible for all boarding costs, including feed, care and any private trainer support. Wild Rose Mustang Advocacy Group has worked very hard to gather donations, which will help our Youth Trainers with their expenses. We will also have at least one fundraiser event this summer, which will also help fund care costs. Mustangs can be boarded at a private or public facility, or at the Youth Trainers’ property, with approval of Wild Rose Mustang Advocacy Group
*Twice a month, Youth trainers will have the opportunity to trailer-in and join on-site training sessions with professional horse trainers, veterinarians, farriers… dates to be announced soon. If youth trainers are unable to attend, they may schedule a one-hour virtual training session with one of the trainers from Wild Rose Mustang. Youth trainers will also have access to myself, as well as Wild Rose trainers via text and Instagram. We are here to help!
*In August, Wild Rose will host a Mustang Showcase, which is a wonderful fun-filled day where the kids can show off what they have taught their Mustangs over the course of the summer. This event is held at the Colorado State University B.W. Pickett Arena in Fort Collins. Essentially, we set up a Trail-course where kids walk their Mustangs in-hand, and judges will score them on how they execute each obstacle. Ribbons and cash prizes are awarded! The public is invited, and this is where many of the Mustangs will (hopefully) be adopted out. Youth trainers also have the opportunity to adopt their Mustang, if they desire.
*We are all about Positive Training techniques, empowering our youth, developing skills with horses and within ourselves, having FUN!!
Do you know a young person who might be interested in this? We would LOVE to have them join us this summer!
